Sullya Chennakeshava Temple

Sullya Chennakeshava temple is one of the famous temples in Sullia taluk where the annual festivities called “Jatrotsava” are held every year during January. The festival attracts people from diverse parts of the taluk, and even the people who have migrated from Sullia taluk to other parts of the state make it a point to visit Sullia during this period as they consider Sri Chennakeshava temple as their ‘seeme’ temple and hence they feel obliged to pay curtsy to their deity. Sri Chennakeshava temple is said to be 600 years old, and was established by Sri Chennigaraya Ballala.

Shree Chennakeshava Temple is located in the heart of Sullia town beside the State Highway connecting Mangaluru with Mysuru city and is about 0.5 Kms from the main bus stand. The temple is the most ancient temple of about 850 years old attracting a large number of devotees from all over the places. It is believed that the Jain rulers who had ruled the most of the parts of Tulunadu for many years known as “Ballal’s”, had built Shree Chennakeshava Temple at “Panne Beedu” which is about 0.5 Kms from the present temple complex. Here at Panne Beedu, there are sanctums of Shree Bhagavathi and “Nalku Sthaana Chavadi”.

The symbol of Lord Shree Chennakeshava at the sanctuary is made up off “Panchaloha” and is offered with poojas and sevas every day thrice a day.
