Parasinakadavu
Parasinakadavu-Shree Muthappan is a Hindu deity worshiped generally in Parasinakadavu, Kannur of North Kerala state. Muthappan and Thiruvappan, are considered to be a sign of Shiva and Vishnu, and hence Muthappan. It is located 80 Km from Kasaragod.
About the history:
The story is all about a divine young boy from a tribal family named ‘Muttapan’.He was travelling to the village named Kunnathurpadi, on the way he got a tribalman named Chantan as his friend. One day, when he saw his friend Chantan tapping toddy from Palm tree the boy asked for it but was denied. All of sudden, Chantan was cursed and became a stone.
Later his wife asked and offered to play out the ceremonies, Oottu, Tiruvappana and Amruthakalasam, to satisfy the kid in the month of Dhanu. The kid yielded and gave her husband back. The Chantan family then began to direct pooja to satisfy the boy and they called him in the name: “Muthappan”.
How does they worship ?
Worship of Muthappan is unique, in that it does not follow the Sattvic form of worship, as in other Hindu temples. The main sort of worship is not via idol worship, but via a rite performance of Muthappan, performed daily at the Parassinikadavu temple. Fish is used as an offering to Muthappan, and people of all castes, religions and nationalities are permitted to enter the temple and join in in the worship. It is unique because in Kerala both the upper-caste Brahmins, and the lower-caste tribals, both have a significant contribution to the major forms of worship.
