Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary shares with the branch of Bhadra river in Chikmagalur one of the Karnataka’s best and most inspiring sanctuary, extending over some 1.968 square kilometres. It is home to several rare and species of flora and fauna, among them the Tiger, Leopard, Gaur, Sambar and Indian Rock Pythons.

The range was initially announced as ‘Jagara Valley Wildlife Sanctuary’ in 1951 by the then administration of Mysore covering a zone of 77.45 km2 (29.90 sq mi). After an orderly study of the vegetation and the fauna of the region and its environment, the range was reached out to its present degree and renamed to Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary in 1974.
