The Thrindramananthapadmanabha temple is located inside the East Fort in Thiruvananthapuram is the SreePadmanabhaSwamy temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is a blend of the Kerala and Dravidian styles of architecture.
The history of SreePadmanabhaswamy Temple dates back to 8th century. It is one of the 108 holy Vishnu temples or DivyaDesams in India. Divya Desams are the holiest abodes of the Lord Vishnu that are mentioned in the works of the Tamil Azhvars. The presiding deity of this temple is Lord Vishnu, reclining on Anantha, the hooded Serpent.
This is a huge temple, situated in roughly an area of 1 sq km, built entirely of granite and has the main idol made of solid gold. The present city of trivandrum derives its name from the Lord’s name. This is a must see for any tourist visiting Kerala.
To enter the temple you need to wear “Dhothi ” which is a single piece cloth, which is readily available for purchase or rent outside the temple. You are also expected to obey and abide to Hindu beliefs and customs and practices of worship.
